Q1

What is the standard which the NoiseKen INS series Impulse Noise Simulator complies to?

The Impulse Noise Simulator (abbreviated to INS) design comes from test equipment invented by an American computer manufacturer in late 60's when events of malfunctions of digital equipment had just begun to emerge in society.  Now the INS method is the established test method in Japan and other Asian countries.

The Impulse Noise Simulator (or equipment) were adopted by Japanese major electronics companies much earlier than the release of first international EMC standard (IEC 801-4), which was originally intended for Industrial-Process Measurement and Control Equipment for switching transients.  The followings are some examples of the industry standards referencing NoiseKen INS or equivalent:

  • Nippon Electric Control Equipment Industries Association NECA TR-28 A guide of immunity test method for rectangular-wave impulse noise of electrical machinery and apparatus in industrial use
  • The Japan Electrical Manufacturer's Association JEMA JEM-TR177 A guide of immunity test method for rectangular-wave impulse noise of electrical machineries and apparatus in industrial use
  • The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan JEC-0103 Test Voltage for Low Voltage Control Circuits

Q2.

Our company is a user of the NoiseKen Coupling Adaptors CA-803A/CA-805B/CA-806 for external interface lines testing.  What is the standard which these products comply to?

Like the INS Impulse Noise Simulator main units, the NoiseKen Coupling Adapters are based on the company's original design.  However, these options are used by many customers as the de-facto standard instrument.  The followings are a few examples of the industry standards referencing NoiseKen Coupling Adapters (or equivalent) being used with the INS simulator :

  • Nippon Electric Control Equipment Industries Association NECA TR-28 A guide of immunity test method for rectangular-wave impulse noise of electrical machinery and apparatus in industrial use
  • The Japan Electrical Manufacturer's Association JEMA JEM-TR177 A guide of immunity test method for rectangular-wave impulse noise of electrical machineries and apparatus in industrial use
