What measuring instrument and accessories are required for measuring the output waveform from the FNS series EFT/B simulator?

 

   

In addition to an oscilloscope with a bandwidth of ≧400MHz, the following two coaxial high voltage attenuator are required: AT-810, 40dB attenuator, 50 ohm input and 50 ohm output and AT-810, 40 dB attenuator, 1k ohm input and 50 ohm output. 

 

For measurement of the output waveform at an output of the CDN, 02-00131A conversation adapter (screw terminal to coaxial) is required.  An additional attenuator may be required depending on voltage setting on the FNS and the scope's maximum input. 

 

The NoiseKen FNS simulator and its options use the manufacturer-designed HV coaxial connectors. No connectivity with any other commercially available ones is provided.

Why shall an half of the voltage setting on the FNS be measured on the scope?

  

   

The EFT/B generator output impedance is 50Ω.  When the AT-810 attenuator whose input impedance is 50 ohm terminates the generator output, the following formula applies: 

Voltage setting on the FNS (open circuit voltage) × (50Ω/50Ω+50Ω)= voltage being measured on the scope.

How can I measure the output waveform form the CDN output of my FNS series EFT/B simulator, which I recently knew is a requirement newly added in the IEC 61000-4-4 edition 2.0 amendment 1. (amendment 1 to the second edition)?

 

   

According to the standard, the waveform shall be individually verified for each coupling line at each output terminal (L1,L2, L3, N and PE) of the coupling/decoupling network with a single 50 Ω termination to reference ground. 

 

The verification is performed with the generator output at a set voltage of 4 kV.  The individual outputs of the CDN (normally connected to the EUT) are terminated with a 50 Ω load while the other outputs are open. 

 

For this purpose,  AT-810 50 ohm attenuator and 02-00131A conversion adapter (screw terminal to coaxial) is available.  The NoiseKen FNS simulator and its options use the manufacturer-designed HV coaxial connectors.  No connectivity with any commercially available coaxial connecters is provided.
