Although the IEC 61000-4-2 standard specifies 150pF/330 ohm network for simulating human discharge events, the Noiseken products have many other selections from 100pF to 500pF and 100 ohm to 10K ohm. What do these values mean?

The IEC-61000-4-2 adopts the value of 150pF/330 ohm at the typical or standardized one for the purpose of establishing a common basis for many users.  But, in reality, there are wide range of variations for human capacitances and discharge resistances.  ESD problems are not new.

Some companies started ESD testing prior to the issue of the IEC standard and still use their own capacitance and resistance based on their experience.   The Noiseken approach fulfills these non-IEC users, too.
